Arizona Climate

The large area of the state accounts for the varied weather conditions experienced by the Arizonians. The lower level is primarily desert experiencing hot summers & warm winters. From the beginning of winters to the onset of spring, the average temperature is 15 degrees centigrade. With occasional frosts, the average temperature during the winters range from 4-24 degrees centigrade. November to February is the coldest months.

In the summer months, the temperature oscillates between 32-48 degrees centigrade, with the mercury rising up to 52 degrees centigrade at times. The desert area is invariably associated with large swings of temperature. Arizona records an annual rainfall of 323mm, which again results from the monsoons during the summers & the cold fronts from the Pacific Ocean during the winters.

Although Tornadoes & Hurricanes are rare in Arizona, the hot moisture during the months of July & August brings along with it lightning, thunderstorms, winds & torrential rainfall. The northern part of the state is a plateau with relatively cooler temperatures. Cold air from the northern states & Canada sometimes bring down the temperature to -18 degrees centigrade. It is the climate of Arizona that attracts many tourists every year.
