Various kinds of sports are popular in Arizona. This state has its professional football team, softball, ice hockey, baseball, basketball, arena football & lacrosse. There are numerous golf courses & Arizona holds many PGA tournaments. The Phoenix Open, more popularly known as the FBR Open is held here.

The density of many colleges & universities make college sports very popular out here. In fact, the oldest rivalry in the NCAA is that between the Arizona State University & the University of Arizona. The winner of the ‘Duel in the Desert’, the annual football game between the two schools- is awarded the ‘Territorial Cup’. Started in 1899, this trophy is certified as the oldest trophy in college football. Several Bowling Championship Series are held as well. Some of them are The Fiesta Bowl, which is to be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. The 2007 BCS National Championship Game & the Super Bowl XLII on February 2008 also held in this stadium.

The Arizona Fall League & the Arizona Winter League are also held in this state. The Fall league is a minor tournament, which came to the limelight when Michael Jordan started out his career in baseball with the Scottsdale Scorpions.
