The University of Arizona
The University of Arizona is located in the city of Tucson, Arizona; the second largest city in the state after Phoenix. It is the first university in the state of Arizona being founded in 1885. Apart from research and higher education, the university also includes the only medical school in the state. The enrollment in 2006 was around 37,000 students.
The University of Arizona hosts a lot of facilities which concern academics and extracurricular activities alike. The main campus is situated on around 380 acres of area which hosts around 179 buildings. The Student Union Memorial Center was replaced from its earlier stage with a new 405,000 square feet building housing 14 restaurants, a two level bookstore, 23 meeting rooms, eight lounge areas, a computer lab, a U.S. Post office, a photocopy center and a video arcade.
The current university president is Robert N. Shelton, the term starting from 2006. The students are also from diverse parts inside and outside America. The library of the university consists of around 5 million volumes and the architecture has been recently been upgraded in 2002. A varied kinds of sports are also popular in the University.
